Isabelle Rom, the French ambassador for human rights, stated that Afghan women must play a role in all decision-making related to the country's future.
After meeting with a number of female activists from Afghanistan, Rom wrote on X that the women of the country "are not victims, but survivors and fighters." She urged the international community to stand with Afghan women.
Rom added that France rejects any dialogue with the Taliban and strongly condemns their restrictive laws targeting women's fundamental rights and access to public spaces. She said these restrictions institutionally exclude women from society and must end.
The ambassador thanked Vivienne Teitelbaum, a member of the Belgian Senate, for holding a session in support of Afghan women, describing it as an important action to highlight women's role in democracy.
Rom noted that France, along with five other countries, supports the International Criminal Court's prosecutor's request to issue arrest warrants against Taliban leaders. She also expressed support for creating an investigative mechanism to document crimes in Afghanistan.
She emphasized that the presence of women in decision-making processes is vital for Afghanistan's future.
