Germany Deports 20 Afghan Criminal Asylum Seekers to Kabul
The German Interior Ministry announced that 20 Afghan asylum seekers described as criminals were returned to Kabul on Thursday aboard a charter flight from Leipzig.
The ministry stated that the individuals were required to leave Germany after committing crimes there, including sexual offenses and drug-related violations. It marked the first charter flight under a new agreement aimed at enabling direct returns to Afghanistan without assistance from third countries.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the deportation of criminals forms a key part of Germany's migration control and policy, adding that the process would continue step by step with determination.
Germany has previously deported at least one Afghan citizen convicted on security and judicial grounds to Kabul, as part of its ongoing efforts to repatriate Afghan asylum seekers.
