GAZA — Hamas has told mediators it will not discuss disarmament unless Israel fully withdraws from Gaza.
Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing, rejected calls for disarmament as an attempt to continue the "genocide" against Palestinians, stating they will not be accepted under any circumstances.
The stance represents a major obstacle in ceasefire talks, which are also stalled over disputes regarding Israeli troop withdrawal, governance of Gaza and reconstruction efforts.
According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump's peace team presented Hamas with a written proposal on giving up weapons.
Abu Ubaida urged mediators to pressure Israel to implement the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, accusing it of undermining the truce.
Hamas and Israel have repeatedly accused each other of violating the ceasefire since it took effect in October.
