Hamid Karzai Accuses Pakistani Government of Seeking Chaos in Afghanistan After Kabul Hospital Bombing
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai accused the Pakistani government of wanting to create 'chaos and weakness' in Afghanistan, citing a recent bombing of an addicts' hospital in Kabul.
In an interview with Sky News Britain, Karzai said he personally heard the 'horrific sound' of the explosion, with his house shaking and the surrounding area filled with smoke and dust. He described the attack as a 'very regrettable event' in the history of relations between the two countries. Karzai noted that Pakistan has failed to maintain good relations with successive Afghan governments, from the monarchy to republics, including during his own tenure when he visited Pakistan 20 times to improve ties.
"The sad reality is that the Pakistani government does not want to have a reasonable, logical, and civilized relationship with Afghanistan," Karzai said. "Over these years, they have relied on creating chaos and weakness and a suppressed Afghanistan to their advantage, which is very wrong."
Pakistani officials have claimed that attacks in their country are organized by militants in Afghanistan, a charge rejected by the Islamic Emirate, which states Afghanistan is not responsible for Pakistan's security failures.
The World Union of Muslim Scholars strongly condemned the attack on the Kabul addicts' hospital, which it said led to the martyrdom of hundreds and wounding of many others during the last ten nights of Ramadan. The group described it as one of the greatest major sins in Islam and a violation of international laws protecting hospitals. It urged Pakistan to investigate, stop such actions and called on both countries to end hostilities through dialogue, citing mediation by Qatar and Turkey.
Islamic Emirate Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi labeled the attack by the Pakistani military regime a clear violation of humanitarian principles. In an online meeting with Afghan embassies and consulates, he instructed them to convey the Islamic Emirate's position to the international community regarding recent Pakistani aggressions.
