
Heavy Rains and Floods Damage Agriculture, Livestock in Helmand Province
Recent heavy rains and floods have caused widespread damage to agricultural lands, crops, orchards and livestock in Helmand province, including Lashkargah city and the districts of Sengin, Garmser, Nozad, Washir, Babaji, Marjeh, Nawa Mish, Musa Qala, Kajaki, Khaneshin, Baghran and Baghni.
Shafiqullah Mubeen, planning and coordination manager at the Helmand Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department, stated that the damage has left hundreds of farmers and livestock owners facing severe economic problems.
Preliminary reports indicate around 2,344 jeribs of farmland and crops have been destroyed, with hundreds of animals perishing. Department officials are currently collecting precise damage figures, as the numbers are not yet final.
Affected farmers and livestock owners have called for urgent humanitarian and financial assistance from the government and aid organizations.
Mubeen noted that this year's rains have also caused damage in numerous other provinces beyond Helmand.
