Heavy rains and flooding overnight damaged hundreds of homes and affected over 550 families in Kandahar province, with no human casualties reported, according to the Kandahar Province Disaster Management Directorate.
The directorate stated that 250 houses were partially or completely destroyed in Kandahar city, displacing 200 families there. An additional 15 families were affected in Arghanday district, 150 in Daman district and 170 in Zharay district, for a total of 550 families impacted.
In neighboring Helmand province, heavy rains and floods destroyed more than 300 houses in Garmser district's Birataka and Shamlan Dasht areas, according to reports from the Helmand Security Command. Houses also collapsed and solar panels were damaged in Sengin and Nad Ali districts due to strong winds.
Security forces evacuated residents to safety, and Helmand Security Command commander Mullah Aminullah Zabeer ordered immediate assistance and risk mitigation measures.
Provincial authorities in both areas reported financial losses but confirmed no deaths from the weather events.
