Indian officials have broadened their examination of the Telegram messaging application. The inquiry now encompasses issues related to child sexual abuse material in addition to cyber fraud, scams, and harassment. This development comes after an initial focus on leaks from examinations.

The restriction of the app occurred temporarily earlier this month. It was implemented before the re-test of the NEET-UG medical entrance exam because of suspected cheating networks operating through the platform. Service access has been reinstated. However, limits on editing messages continue until the end of June.

The Cybercrime Coordination Centre prepared a report spanning thirty-five pages. This document was presented to the court and describes efforts to monitor Telegram for prohibited content. Examples include child sexual abuse material and advertisements for fraudulent jobs.

Data from the report indicates that over six hundred eighty-eight thousand complaints about cyber fraud connected to Telegram have been lodged since two thousand twenty-three. These incidents have caused financial losses amounting to approximately seven hundred fifty million dollars. In the period from January to May two thousand twenty-six, one thousand five hundred fifty-six complaints were submitted regarding online harassment, child sexual abuse material, and additional offenses occurring on the service.

Representatives from Telegram have indicated that content violating laws accounts for under zero point one percent of all activity on the platform. Moderation tools have been in use by the company since two thousand eighteen. The country of India serves as the primary market for Telegram and has more than one hundred fifty million individuals using the application.
