International Figures Congratulate Rashid Khan on Reaching 700 T20 Wickets
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's star cricketer and national team captain, has reached 700 wickets in T20 cricket, a historic milestone that has drawn congratulations from prominent international figures.
Zalmay Khalilzad, former US Special Representative for Afghanistan, praised Khan as a source of pride for Afghanistan and commended his continued excellence on the global stage. Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan, highlighted the achievement as a major world record and welcomed recent victories by Afghanistan and England at the T20 World Cup, wishing further success to Afghanistan, England, and Scotland in the remaining group matches.
Khan, regarded as one of the finest spin bowlers in modern cricket, has played a key role in elevating Afghanistan's position in international cricket through consistent performances in global leagues and tournaments.
Speaking in Delhi ahead of Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the United Arab Emirates, Khan reflected on the team's recent Super Over loss to South Africa in Ahmedabad. He compared it to their painful defeat to Australia at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, saying such losses "never go out of the mind" until avenged. Khan described ordering Peshawari food late at night to unwind, emphasizing team unity and avoiding blame among players.
"No one should say that he did this or he did that because it brings negativity in the team," Khan said. "We all put in the effort." He stressed the challenge of maintaining performance despite setbacks, noting that one failure overshadows 99 successes.
Afghanistan kept their T20 World Cup 2026 hopes alive with a five-wicket victory over the UAE in Delhi, chasing 161 with four balls to spare after UAE posted 160 for 9.
