Iran Announces Arrest of 17 People Over Alleged US-Israeli Sabotage Links

Iranian authorities announced the arrest of seventeen people in Ilam province located in western Iran. The detainees face accusations of working with a network engaged in sabotage that is said to be supported by the United States and Israel.

According to the reports, three individuals among those arrested served as leaders of this network. The remaining fourteen are described as regular members of the group. Officials have linked the network to efforts aimed at organizing street unrest as well as protests that occurred during the winter of the previous year. Sabotage activities are also attributed to the group by the authorities.

This announcement takes place during a period of ongoing diplomatic talks between Iran and the United States. The talks come after the establishment of a memorandum dealing with nuclear issues and sanctions. A timeframe of sixty days has been allocated for these negotiations. Meetings are planned to be held in Switzerland. Abbas Araghchi is set to take part in the discussions for the Iranian side while Steve Witkoff will represent the United States.

Both the United States and Israel have rejected the claims that they provided support for any efforts to destabilize the situation in Iran. At the same time, human rights organizations have expressed worries regarding the due process available to the individuals who have been detained.
