Iran Declares Elon Musk's Starlink Satellite Internet a 'Legitimate Target'
Iran has warned that Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service is among its "legitimate targets" in the region, according to Fars News Agency.
The statement comes amid a five-week war between Iran and a US-Israel alliance. The US Joint Chiefs Chairman stated that thousands of sites in Iran have been targeted since the attacks began. Iranian officials including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei have been killed, the report said.
Iran has responded with missile and drone strikes on American targets in the region and carried out nearly 90 waves of "True Promise 4" attacks on Israeli targets.
Domestically, Iranian security institutions, including the Interior Ministry, have criminalized the use of Starlink by citizens, threatening severe punishments such as prison. The government has also banned taking pictures or videos of bomb and missile impact sites.
Iran cut off domestic internet access following the start of the war. Fars News Agency reported that Starlink satellite internet is present in Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
