Iran Executes Three Afghan Citizens on Drug-Related Charges

The Iran Human Rights Organization reported that Iranian authorities executed three Afghan citizens on drug-related charges in prisons in Shiraz and Yazd.
The men were named as Mirwais Khalilzadi, 55, from Jalalabad; Ibrahim Ahmadshahi, approximately 40, from Khost; and Noorjalal Mujahid, 27, from Baghdis. The organization said the individuals were arrested one to two years earlier and sentenced by revolutionary courts.
The executions bring the total number of Afghan citizens executed in Iranian prisons to at least 16 during the first six months of the current solar year. Reports indicate that at least 84 Afghan citizens were executed in Iran during 2025, with the figure rising after the Taliban assumed power.
One additional Afghan prisoner, Homayoun Noorzi, 70, from Kunduz, was executed earlier on similar charges in Zabul prison. The organization has expressed concern over the lack of legal support available to Afghan detainees in Iran.

Reliability assessment
Two independent sources corroborate the core event of the three executions with matching details on names, ages, origins, locations, and charges, all attributed to Iran Human Rights Organization with concrete, checkable specifics.
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Amu TV: "continued execution of Afghan citizens" and "expressed concern about these prisoners' lack of effective access to defense lawyers and consular support" – these phrases frame the events with advocacy language highlighting human rights violations and lack of due process.
