CBS News reported that cybercriminals linked to Iran accessed the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel.

The Handala Hacktim group claimed responsibility for the breach and published images and an alleged resume of Patel online, according to Reuters. An FBI spokesperson has not commented on the security breach.

The incident occurred a few days after the US Department of Justice seized four domains related to the Handala group. The domain used to hack Patel's email was registered on the same day the DOJ announced the seizures.

The US DOJ has attributed to Handala a malware attack on a US medical technology company and the publication of sensitive information on nearly 190 individuals connected to Israeli defense forces and government officials.

Handala posted online claiming a successful hack of Patel's email account and referencing the DOJ's domain seizure action.
