Iranian Foreign Minister Challenges Trump's Claim of 32,000 Protest Deaths
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded to recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding casualties from protests in Iran, urging him to 'speak with evidence.'
Trump stated during a press conference that 32,000 people were killed in Iran in a short time amid recent protests. He described the situation as 'very, very, very sad' and emphasized that the Iranian people differ greatly from their leaders.
Araghchi posted on X that the Iranian government had published a comprehensive list of all 3,117 victims of what it called a recent terrorist operation, including about 200 security force members. He challenged anyone doubting the data to provide evidence.
Iranian officials have referred to participants in the recent anti-government protests as 'terrorists.'
Trump also suggested negotiating 'a fair agreement' and had previously issued a 10-day ultimatum to Iran to reach a nuclear deal with the United States. Speculation has grown about the failure of nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, along with the possibility of a U.S. military attack on Iran.
