Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Iran's foreign minister, stated that the US government bears full responsibility for bloodshed resulting from US attacks on Iran.

On Thursday, March 5, Araqchi wrote on his X page that Iran's armed forces had prepared themselves in advance for the war. He added that the conflict would become a "quagmire" for anyone pursuing it.

Araqchi said Iran had negotiated with the US government twice, but was attacked by the US both times during the talks.

The military conflict between the US and Iran continues, with published reports indicating more than 1,000 people killed in Iran so far.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran had sought to prevent the war through diplomacy and assistance from neighboring countries, but US and Israeli military attacks left Iran with no choice but self-defense.

Reliability assessment

Single source reports direct, on-record statements from named Iranian officials (Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi on his X page dated March 5, and President Masoud Pezeshkian) with concrete details including specific dates and quotes.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Phrases like 'fully responsible for the bloodshed' (title and body) and 'quagmire' (quoted but prominently featured) add emotional framing and metaphorical intensity to blame the US.
