Iran's Parliament President Warns Enemies Preparing to Occupy One of Iran's Islands
Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, president of Iran's parliament, stated that the country's enemies are preparing an operation to occupy one of Iran's islands, without specifying which one.
In a post on X, Qalibaf warned that if such an action takes place, all vital infrastructure of "that regional country" would face relentless attacks without limits. He did not identify the regional country.
Qalibaf's remarks referenced past U.S. attacks on Iran's Kharg Island, a key oil export hub, launched from bases in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Kharg Island, located in Bushehr province, measures 8 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide. It handles more than 90 percent of Iran's oil exports and has a storage capacity of over 30 million barrels.
Following one such U.S. attack, former U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if the Strait of Hormuz were opened and Iran ceased attacks on commercial ships there, all of Iran's oil infrastructure on Kharg Island would be destroyed. According to Trump, previous U.S. strikes on the island targeted only military bases.
