Iran’s Parliament Speaker Warns Region Could ‘Burn’ Over Trump Threat

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned late Sunday on X that the region could "burn" in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to attack Iranian infrastructure.

Ghalibaf accused Trump of dragging the United States into confrontation and following commands from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He posted the warning amid heightened tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump demanded that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, threatening strikes on key infrastructure including power plants and bridges if the deadline passes without a deal.

The exchange occurs against a backdrop of rising U.S.-Iran tensions, including regional military activity and fears of wider escalation that could involve Israel. Backchannel diplomacy continues, while analysts express concerns over the risks of miscalculation.
