Iran's Pezeshkian says accepting Iran's rights key to ending war
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the only way to end the war initiated by attacks from Israel and the United States is by recognizing Iran's legitimate rights, providing compensation and offering firm international guarantees to prevent future attacks.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in a post on X on March 11. He added that in phone conversations with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan, he emphasized Iran's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Pajhwok reported that the U.S. and Israel have conducted joint attacks against Iran for more than a week, which have been met with a strong response from Iran. RTA referred to the attacks as initiated by the "Zionist regime and America."
Khaama Press noted that tensions in the Middle East have risen sharply, with reports of more than 1,000 people killed in Iran since the escalation began. It also reported that the European Union has agreed to impose new sanctions on Iranian officials and institutions over alleged human rights violations, a move condemned by Iranian government spokesman Esmail Baghaei as politically motivated.
Additionally, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi stated two days prior in an interview with PBS that negotiations with the U.S. are no longer on the agenda for the Islamic Republic due to a "very bitter" past experience.
The conflict has raised concerns about broader regional instability, with analysts cited by Khaama Press suggesting that diplomatic efforts and international pressure could influence whether it expands or leads to negotiations.
