The Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has given approval to a comprehensive master plan designed for the development of Herat city.

This master plan was the result of nearly two years of dedicated technical studies, along with field assessments and feasibility analyses. Preparation of the plan involved close coordination among the local administration in Herat, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, and the provincial department responsible for urban development and housing.

Among the main features outlined in the master plan are provisions for land-use zoning, the creation of a new city spanning 50,000 jeribs of land, expansion of existing road networks, setting up industrial zones along with logistics centres, allocation of green spaces, safeguarding of historical sites, and enhancements to water and sewage systems. Additionally, measures are included to curb unregulated construction activities.

Mufti Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, who serves as the spokesman for the governor, stated that putting the master plan into action will bring Herat into a new phase of sustainable growth and development. According to officials, the plan is intended to direct sustainable urban growth, alleviate traffic congestion, generate employment opportunities, draw in investment, and raise the overall living standards in the province.
