Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Releases American Detainee Dennis Coil

KABUL (Afghan Verified) — The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has released American detainee Dennis Coil following a decision by its Supreme Court.

The Foreign Ministry said the release came after Dennis Coil's mother sent a letter to the Islamic Emirate leadership requesting his freedom on the occasion of Eid. The Supreme Court deemed his imprisonment period sufficient and ordered his release.

Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Zalmay Khalilzad, former US Special Representative for Afghanistan, UAE Ambassador to Kabul Saif al-Kitbi, and a family member of Dennis Coil.

Muttaqi stated that the Islamic Emirate does not detain citizens of any country for political goals. Instead, such individuals are released after completing judicial processes for violations of laws.

He emphasized the need for both sides to provide standard consular services to their citizens, adding that the Afghan government is fully prepared to do so.

Khalilzad praised the Islamic Emirate's step and stressed the importance of continued talks between Afghanistan and the United States on all issues. He expressed hope for further progress in the future.
