Islamic Emirate Responds to UNSC Sanctions Extension: Repeating Failed Experiences 'Not Logical'

KABUL (Afghan Verified) -- Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, responded to the United Nations Security Council's decision to extend the mandate of the committee overseeing Afghanistan-related sanctions for another year.

In a statement on Friday, Fitrat said sanctions and restrictions have produced no results in the past and will not benefit anyone in the future. He described the repeated imposition of such measures, which he termed 'failed experiences,' as not logical.

The UN Security Council extended the sanctions committee's mandate on Thursday night.

Fitrat praised the positions taken by China and Russia as worthy of appreciation. He argued that the tangible progress and current realities in Afghanistan are incompatible with sanctions imposed during a previous period of crisis that have continued to the present.

Afghanistan is on a path of progress and engagement with various countries, with security and stability improving daily, Fitrat stated. Under these circumstances, he emphasized, Afghanistan requires cooperation rather than daily impositions or extensions of sanctions.

He called on Western countries to reconsider their policies and pursue constructive engagement with Afghanistan.
