Israeli Strikes Kill Eight in Southern Lebanon Amid Extended Ceasefire

Israeli airstrikes struck southern Lebanon on Sunday, killing at least eight people despite a recently extended United States-brokered ceasefire. The attacks have raised fresh concerns about the stability of the truce as cross-border hostilities continue.

Lebanese officials confirmed that the casualties included two Syrian nationals and one Egyptian citizen near the city of Tyre. Additional fatalities were reported following separate drone strikes and attacks on residential buildings in the area. Local authorities are working to identify the remaining victims and provide emergency assistance to affected neighborhoods.

The violence occurs against a backdrop of significant regional displacement and loss of life. Lebanese authorities report that at least 2,700 people have been killed and more than 1.6 million displaced since hostilities escalated in March. The recent extension of the ceasefire was intended to halt the exchange of fire and facilitate humanitarian access, but Sunday’s incidents highlight ongoing security challenges along the border.

The strikes have intensified scrutiny over the durability of the truce, which was negotiated to de-escalate tensions and allow displaced families to return to their homes. Neither the Israeli military nor Hezbollah issued immediate statements regarding the latest incidents. International mediators have urged all parties to exercise restraint and fully comply with the ceasefire terms to prevent further civilian casualties and support diplomatic efforts toward a lasting resolution.
