Japanese authorities have issued evacuation orders affecting approximately one million people. This action was taken in light of heavy rainfall and the potential for landslides. The tropical storms Mekkhala and Higos are responsible for much of the severe weather when combined with the seasonal rain front that is currently active.

Disruptions to transportation have been significant across Japan. More than two hundred flights have been cancelled as a direct result of the storms. Dozens of train services have been suspended. Several expressways have been closed due to safety concerns arising from the weather conditions.

A manufacturing facility operated by Toyota in the southern Kyushu region of Japan experienced a brief halt in its operations. This was necessary because of the adverse weather brought by the storms.

The island of Taiwan has not escaped the impacts of storm Mekkhala. Heavy rains have caused flooding in several locations. As a consequence, schools and government offices in multiple cities have been closed. These closures have affected an estimated six million people.

Flooding has also impacted the north-south railway line. In the city of Hualien, nearly two hundred residents were evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have stated that no casualties have been reported in either Japan or Taiwan as a result of the heavy rainfall and associated storms.

The measures taken by the authorities in both countries aim to ensure the safety of residents and travelers during this period of intense weather activity.
