Japanese Ambassador Masamoto Kenichi announced that Japan will allocate 35 million dollars for development projects in Afghanistan this year. The announcement was made during a meeting with Economy Minister Qari Din Mohammad Hanif focused on bilateral economic cooperation and humanitarian assistance.

Of the total, 9.3 million dollars will support climate change mitigation, water management, and efforts to address Kabul's drinking water shortage. Ambassador Kenichi also noted that Japan has provided 560 million dollars in humanitarian assistance since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate.

Minister Hanif described Afghanistan-Japan relations as historic and friendly. He stressed the need for continued international support to address food insecurity, poverty, unemployment, droughts, and challenges facing returnees and vulnerable communities.
