Journalist Among Five Killed in Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon
At least five people, including a journalist, were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon. The strikes occurred in the town of at-Tiri, where an initial attack targeted a vehicle, resulting in two fatalities.
The Israeli military stated that its forces struck two vehicles that had departed from a Hezbollah military structure. Following the initial explosion, several individuals, including members of the press, sought refuge in a nearby building. A subsequent airstrike hit the shelter, killing Al Akhbar journalist Amal Khalil and others. Another journalist, Zeinab Faraj, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health condemned the attacks, accusing Israeli forces of deliberately pursuing and targeting members of the media. Health officials reported that the casualties were brought to medical facilities in the region, with emergency teams responding to the scene.
The strikes in at-Tiri mark the latest escalation in cross-border hostilities, drawing condemnation from press freedom advocates and regional authorities. Local media organizations confirmed the identities of the journalists involved and called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attacks. Medical personnel and civil defense workers continue to secure the area and assist the injured as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
