The president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has taken the step of ratifying an agreement reached with the United Nations. This agreement paves the way for the creation of a Regional Center dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals. The center is meant to cover Central Asia as well as Afghanistan.
Under the terms of the ratified agreement, the Central Asian country will make annual contributions of three million dollars. These payments are scheduled to begin in two thousand twenty five and continue through two thousand twenty nine. The funding will support the center's various activities.
The new center is slated to be situated in Almaty. Its work will encompass several key areas. These include enhancing coordination among the involved parties, providing technical assistance, improving climate resilience, promoting economic growth, and supporting humanitarian cooperation.
Oversight will come from an advisory council and an international committee. These entities will handle the development of annual work programs for the center. The location in Almaty is anticipated to reinforce the city's standing as an international hub. At the same time, it will assist Kazakhstan in promoting its national priorities within the United Nations.
This development represents a significant commitment by Kazakhstan to regional sustainable development initiatives.
