Labour Minister Says Workers' Rights Guaranteed Under Islamic Sharia Framework
Senior officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan gathered in Kabul on Tuesday to mark International Workers’ Day, emphasizing that Islamic Sharia provides the most effective framework for safeguarding labor rights.
During the ceremony, Labour and Social Affairs Minister Mawlawi Abdul Manan Omari stated that Islamic law offers comprehensive protections for workers compared to other legal systems. He outlined the administration’s commitment to ensuring fair working conditions and announced ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening labor standards across the country.
The Islamic Emirate has formally moved to revive the National Union of Workers and Employees. Government representatives stated that restoring the union is intended to rebuild its institutional credibility and establish it as a recognized social partner for addressing workplace grievances. Union director Mawlawi Zada, alongside other officials and private sector representatives, attended the event.
Deputy Minister of Economy Abdul Latif Nazari outlined three labor-focused economic policies for the year. The announced measures prioritize the development of skilled labor, increased support for domestic production, and the implementation of mechanisms to ensure job security. Officials noted that these economic directives are designed to operate within the country’s existing legal and religious framework while addressing workforce needs.
The ceremony underscored the administration’s stated approach of aligning economic and labor policies with Islamic jurisprudence, as the government continues to formalize worker representation and implement sector-specific economic strategies.
