Lebanese President Welcomes U.S.-Iran Deal

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has welcomed an agreement reached between the United States and Iran. The expression of support came during a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Aoun voiced hope that the development would lead to a reduction in regional tensions. He also suggested it could contribute to greater stability in Lebanon and encourage the use of diplomatic means to address conflicts.

The president pointed out that stability, security, and sovereignty represent the foremost priorities for Lebanon. These elements were highlighted as essential for the country's future direction.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the need to respect Lebanon's sovereignty along with its territorial integrity. He observed that the understanding between the U.S. and Iran might serve to reinforce stability within Lebanon.

The agreement is characterized as providing a framework for bringing an end to hostilities. It includes provisions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Additional negotiations concerning Iran's nuclear programme are also anticipated as part of the process. A formal signing ceremony for the accord is scheduled to occur in Switzerland.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed reservations about the agreement. He indicated that the struggle for Israel has not concluded. Netanyahu noted that the deal falls short in fully resolving the security concerns facing Israel.
