Macron Urges Iran and US to Resume Negotiations to Prevent Gulf Escalation
French President Emmanuel Macron urged Iran and the United States to return to negotiations to prevent further escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf.
Macron spoke separately with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, emphasizing the need to resolve misunderstandings and immediately resume talks.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Macron stressed full adherence to the ceasefire across the region, including in Lebanon. He called for the unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without any restrictions or tolls to restore freedom of navigation.
Macron announced that France and Britain will host a video summit on Friday, gathering non-involved countries to establish a multilateral defensive mission aimed at ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf, where disruptions to shipping have raised concerns over regional stability and global trade routes.
