The Massoud Foundation has issued a statement expressing concern over reports that the European Commission invited Taliban representatives to technical talks on migrant deportations and migration cooperation.

The statement, released on 1 Saratan, asserted that Afghanistan under Taliban rule lacks a legitimate and accountable government. It added that citizens lack physical, psychological, economic, or social security.

The foundation noted that the Taliban leader and the head of the group's judicial apparatus face International Criminal Court arrest warrants for crimes against humanity. It further stated that a number of senior Taliban officials are on the United Nations sanctions list.

The statement recalled that United Nations Security Council resolutions have repeatedly condemned Taliban activities and highlighted ties to international extremist networks.

The Massoud Foundation called on the European Commission to avoid engagement or normalization with the Taliban and not to return Afghan asylum seekers to Afghanistan.

Reliability assessment

Single source provides direct, on-record attribution to a named organization (Massoud Foundation) issuing a public statement with specific claims; the verifiable fact is that the foundation made these statements.

The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Hasht-e Subh: "lacks a legitimate and accountable government", "do not enjoy physical, psychological, economic, or social security", "charges of crimes against humanity" - these phrases frame the Taliban negatively with strong value judgments on legitimacy, security, and criminality.
