Medical Equipment Purchased for Nimroz Hospital After Pajhwok Shortage Report
ZARANJ, Afghanistan -- The Ministry of Public Health announced the purchase of advanced medical equipment worth 130 million afghanis for Nimroz Provincial Hospital, following a Pajhwok Afghan News report on February 16, 2026, that highlighted shortages of diagnostic devices at the facility.
The equipment, including CT scan and MRI machines, was procured with assistance from Saudi philanthropist Sheikh Abdullah bin Al Thani, according to a ministry statement.
Businessman Haji Gul Ahmad Noorzad of Noorzad Brothers also donated medical devices valued at $20,400, consisting of ultrasound machines, ventilators, ECG units and electrocautery equipment. The ministry reported the donation value as $20,000. Noorzad pledged additional support for health facilities in Nimroz, Farah and Kandahar provinces.
"This equipment will significantly improve our emergency, surgical, obstetrics and ICU services," said Abdul Hakim Rasooli, head of Zaranj Provincial Hospital.
The Pajhwok report prompted swift action from the ministry and donors to address the hospital's diagnostic and treatment gaps.
