NASA Releases New Images of Moon and Earth from Artemis 2 Mission

NASA released new images of the Moon and Earth taken by Artemis 2 astronauts en route to lunar orbit. The crew, the first in deep space since 1972, broke the Apollo 13 distance record from Earth and is nearing its closest approach to the Moon.

NASA has released new images of the Moon and Earth captured by the Artemis 2 astronauts during their flight toward lunar orbit.

The four-person crew includes commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, mission specialist Christina Koch of the United States and mission specialist Jeremy Hansen of Canada. The astronauts are the first to travel into deep space since 1972.

At 1:56 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, the crew broke the record for the farthest distance from Earth, previously set by Apollo 13 at 248,655 miles.

The team is approaching its closest point to the Moon, predicted for around 7:02 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday. NASA has stated that the Artemis 2 astronauts are on a mission to observe the far side of the Moon.
