Nearly four tons of expired and low-quality food items were collected from markets in Qalat city and the districts of Atghar, Tarnak Wa Jaldak, Shamulzo, Siuri and Nawbahar in Zabul province.
The items were burned by the Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice after collection over a period of nearly one month.
Ahmad Bakhtar, media official of the department in Zabul, confirmed the destruction took place in the presence of committee members and media representatives.
Authorities called on traders and residents to work together to stop the sale of expired goods in order to safeguard public health and keep markets to standard.
