New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza during a recent television interview. He described the situation as immoral and stated that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since a ceasefire announced earlier this year.
Mamdani pointed out that children continue to be killed on a near-daily basis in Gaza. He also referenced the death of an Al Jazeera journalist in an Israeli airstrike.
The mayor asserted that AIPAC supports the current status quo in the conflict and opposes efforts for security and stability in Palestine.
Health authorities in Gaza report that the death toll has exceeded 73,000 with more than 173,000 wounded since October 2023. Actual figures are likely higher due to victims still under the rubble.
The conflict began after Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel in October 2023. It has involved repeated failed ceasefire efforts with mutual accusations of violations. Widespread infrastructure destruction has occurred amid stalled ceasefire efforts and calls for compliance with international humanitarian law.

Reliability assessment
Single source provides direct, on-record attribution of statements by named public figure Zohran Mamdani from a television interview; core claims concern what Mamdani said rather than unverified assertions about the conflict itself.
The source language mixes facts with framing or advocacy wording. Khaama Press: "describing the situation as immoral", "deeply concerning", "intensified political debate" - these phrases introduce opinionated judgments on the morality of events and frame the conflict in emotionally loaded terms rather than neutral reporting.
