Nine killed, 35 injured in bus crash on Badghis-Herat highway
At least nine people died and 35 others were wounded in a traffic accident on the Badghis-Herat highway.
Sadiqullah Sadiqi, spokesman for the Taliban police command in Badghis, said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday in the Sabzak area of Qala-e-Now, the provincial capital.
A "404" type bus traveling from Herat toward Qala-e-Now veered off the road and overturned after the driver lost control due to negligence, Sadiqi said. Badghis police attributed the crash to driver carelessness.
Among the dead were women and children, and the condition of some wounded was reported as critical.
The injured were transferred to nearby medical centers, and an investigation into the accident has begun.
Traffic incidents are frequent on Afghanistan's highways, with poor road conditions, aging vehicles and driver negligence cited as major factors.
