North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly Reappoints Kim Jong-un as Head of State Affairs Commission
North Korea's state news agency announced that Kim Jong-un has been reappointed as head of the State Affairs Commission.
The decision came during the first session of the Supreme People's Assembly on Sunday in Pyongyang. The assembly, the country's legislative body, officially approves government policies and typically convenes after the congress of the ruling Workers' Party to turn party decisions into law.
The session is discussing reforms and appendices to the socialist constitution, as well as the election of the head of the State Affairs Commission and other government leadership bodies.
Lawmakers are also reviewing the country's five-year economic plan, which was announced at the ninth congress of the Workers' Party in February.
Kim Yo-jong, the sister of Kim Jong-un and a powerful figure in the regime, was notably absent from the list of members of the State Affairs Commission, the country's highest leadership body, where she has served since 2021.
