Pakistan and Russia Discuss Terrorism Threats from Afghanistan

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry has confirmed that deputy foreign ministers from Pakistan and Russia met in Islamabad. The meeting was held on Tuesday, the second of Saratan. Mohammad Khalid Khan Jamali from Pakistan and Dmitry Lubinsky from Russia led the discussions on both sides.

The main focus of the talks was the threat of terrorism in the region. Officials paid special attention to terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan. They examined how these threats affect neighboring countries and the overall security situation in the area.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed their current bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism issues. They also explored options for greater collaboration in multilateral settings. These settings include the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Both Pakistan and Russia have expressed concerns about terrorist groups located in Afghanistan on several occasions in recent years. Such concerns have been a recurring theme in their diplomatic communications.

The meeting took place amid reports that the Taliban are planning to set up an eight thousand strong special force in the areas along the border with Pakistan. This effort is said to receive financial support from Russia. The special force would have among its tasks the countering of ISIS activities.
