Pakistan Hosts Quadrilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting to Discuss Middle East De-Escalation
ISLAMABAD (Afghan Verified) -- Pakistan is hosting a two-day quadrilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt starting Sunday to discuss ways to reduce tensions amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry announced the gathering, which Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said aims to assess the war situation, reduce tensions and explore paths for negotiations.
The meeting comes amid mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. Pakistan has relayed a U.S. proposal to end the war to Iran and offered to host direct talks. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran are progressing "very well."
Iranian officials deny direct talks with the United States but say they are reviewing a 15-point U.S. proposal, which they described as "one-sided and unfair."
Separately, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Sunday to discuss regional developments and the need for diplomatic de-escalation, according to Khaama Press.
The conflict began on February 28, according to Amu TV.
