Pakistan Raises Three Key Conditions in China-Mediated Talks with Taliban in Urumqi
URUMQI, China (Afghan Verified) -- Pakistan and the Taliban are holding high-level negotiations in Urumqi, China, mediated by Beijing, which is pushing a five-article framework limited to terrorism and border security issues.
Islamabad has raised three key conditions for any agreement, with the third requiring the Taliban to provide documents proving clearance of safe havens used by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan, according to Express Tribune.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry confirmed the talks are ongoing in China but offered no further details. Foreign Ministry spokesman Taher Andarabi stated that Pakistan's participation does not signal any policy change regarding border conflicts. Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi announced the negotiations are proceeding and noted that the Taliban seeks resolution through dialogue.
The discussions are restricted to terrorism and border security, with Pakistan excluding broader political interactions.
