Pakistan, UN Discuss Afghanistan Security in Islamabad
Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, met with a UNAMA delegation in Islamabad to discuss cross-border terrorism and regional security challenges.
The meeting included UN Humanitarian Coordinator Indrika Ratwatte and UNAMA’s head in Islamabad. Discussions focused on security developments, trade, and regional cooperation issues.
Sadiq Khan said both sides stressed the importance of ensuring Afghanistan territory is not used against other countries and highlighted the need for coordinated regional responses to threats.
Participants also emphasized continued cooperation on humanitarian coordination, counterterrorism efforts, regional stability, and sustainable economic development across the region.
Separately, the UN Human Rights Rapporteur held discussions with Sadiq Khan on Afghanistan’s human rights situation and ongoing humanitarian concerns.
Pakistan and UN officials have repeatedly engaged in dialogue over Afghanistan’s stability since the Taliban takeover, amid concerns over militant activities and humanitarian challenges.
Regional countries and international organizations continue to seek coordinated approaches to prevent terrorism spillover while supporting humanitarian assistance and economic recovery efforts in Afghanistan.
