Pakistan's Special Representative Discusses Security Threats from Afghanistan with Russian Ambassador

Pakistan's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan, met with Russia's ambassador in Pakistan to discuss Afghanistan-related issues amid ongoing ambiguous ties between Kabul and Islamabad.

Khan stated that the meeting covered common interests including regional security developments, cross-border terrorism, and threats from groups based in Afghanistan. He added that they also discussed coordinating diplomatic efforts to address shared regional security concerns.

Pakistani officials continue to press past claims linking Afghanistan to security issues. Last week, Suhail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, called for sending a delegation to Kabul to foster constructive dialogue and resolve bilateral challenges. Afridi said: "To maintain good ties with neighbors, dialogue is needed, and I want the opportunity to be provided to take a delegation there where everyone participates and talks with the Afghan government."

Political analyst Khalil Ahmad Nadeem dismissed claims of groups in Afghanistan conducting destructive operations against other countries, describing it as a typical internal Pakistani matter. He accused Pakistan of trying to defame Afghanistan and influence other countries' views toward it.

This comes as the Islamic Emirate's Defense Minister, two days prior, rejected allegations of threats emanating from Afghan soil against others. He claimed some countries and opposing intelligence circles resist Afghanistan's security stabilization, seeking their interests in the country's instability.
