LONDON (Afghan Verified) -- Participants in the 'Towards Trust and Convergence' meeting in London held discussions with British Parliament members on the second day of the event, emphasizing the need for an inclusive political process to address Afghanistan's challenges.
The meeting, organized by Women for Afghanistan, brought together representatives of Afghan political parties, independent figures, cultural and media activists -- about 40 political and civil figures in total, according to organizers. Side meetings took place in Britain's House of Lords and House of Commons, where participants raised issues including rising poverty, the humanitarian crisis, the need for international support for Afghans and extending student visas for Afghan students.
Present were chairs of the defense committee, international development committee and Afghanistan friendship group, along with other civil society representatives interested in Afghan affairs. Organizers described the sessions as part of efforts to strengthen international interactions and support for Afghanistan's future based on education, equality and citizen participation.
Hossein Yasa, a participant, said: "Our fundamental vision is that Afghanistan is a land free from discrimination, a prosperous land, and a land usable for all its citizens."
Bashir Ahmad Ansari stated: "The first principle that everyone must agree on is independence at the external level and freedom at the internal level. Another important issue is social justice."
Masoud Tarashtwal added: "They emphasized the necessity of dialogue and consultation to resolve Afghanistan's issues. They described unity and coordination among all directions and parties involved in Afghanistan's affairs as important."
The event's first round was held last year in Islamabad. The summit has faced various reactions.
