Poland Detains 84 Migrants, Including Afghans and Pakistanis, Amid Tightened Border Controls

Polish authorities have detained at least 84 migrants over a four-day period as part of intensified border security operations along the country’s frontiers with Lithuania and Germany. Among those apprehended were nationals from Afghanistan and Pakistan, according to official statements.

Law enforcement officers arrested 37 individuals near the Poland-Belarus border. The remaining detainees were intercepted in other border regions during coordinated patrols. Following their apprehension, all 84 individuals were processed through the judicial system and handed suspended 10-month prison sentences for illegal border crossing. Authorities confirmed that deportation procedures to their respective countries of origin have been formally initiated.

The arrests align with broader regional efforts to manage irregular migration flows across Europe. Neighboring Germany has recently implemented stricter migration policies, including enhanced border inspections and expedited asylum processing. Polish officials stated that the recent operations are part of a coordinated strategy to address unauthorized crossings and maintain security along the European Union’s external boundaries.

The operations were conducted in the Gubin area and other strategic crossing points. Officials emphasized that the suspended sentences and subsequent deportations are standard procedures under current Polish immigration law. European partners have been coordinating closely to address the ongoing movement of irregular migrants through the region.
