KABUL (Afghan Verified) - The Ministry of Public Health announced a spring polio vaccination campaign targeting approximately 12.6 million children under the age of five. The drive is set to run from April 13 to 16 across most of Afghanistan's 32 provinces, with support from international partners.

The campaign has been postponed in Daikundi and Bamyan provinces due to cold weather. It will be conducted one week later in Ghor province.

Public Health Minister Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali spoke at the opening ceremony on April 11. He urged religious scholars, elders and parents to support the effort to eradicate polio from the country.

Children aged 6 to 59 months will receive vitamin A supplements during the vaccination campaign.

The initiative aims to protect young children from polio, a crippling disease that remains a public health challenge in Afghanistan despite ongoing efforts.
