Polio-Free Afghanistan has announced a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign starting next Monday.

The drive targets children under five years old and will cover most provinces across the country, excluding Bamiyan and Daikundi due to cold weather and access issues.

Vaccinations will be administered through clinics, schools and public gathering points. House-to-house delivery has not been widely used since late 2024, with efforts relying instead on site-to-site methods.

Afghanistan is one of only two countries, alongside Pakistan, where wild poliovirus remains endemic. The country reported new wild poliovirus cases in 2025, with ongoing transmission particularly in southern and eastern regions.

International partners are working to immunize more than 12 million children across all 34 provinces as part of broader efforts to eradicate the disease.
