Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow is ready to resume talks with Washington on the Ukraine war after developments related to Iran. He referenced previous discussions held in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025.
Those talks did not lead to a formal agreement, although they involved U.S. compromise proposals that Russia accepted, creating an informal common understanding.
Putin indicated that further discussions with U.S. officials could be hosted after addressing the Iran-related matters. European countries have not succeeded in changing U.S. President Donald Trump's view on the war in Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron said that Trump accepted at the Group of Seven meeting that Russia has no desire for peace in Ukraine.
Russian officials are discussing a plan in which Ukrainian forces would withdraw from remaining parts of the Donbas region in exchange for Russia halting its advances on other front lines. Ukraine insists it will not cede any part of its territory to Russia.
