Qoshtepa Canal Second Section Reaches 98% Excavation Progress
The head of the Emirati National Development Company visited the second section of the Qoshtepa Water Canal with a high-level delegation and stressed the importance of completing the project quickly and on time to improve Afghanistan's water resources.
Excavation of the canal's second section is 98% complete, while the headworks have reached 90.5% progress. Officials anticipate the project will soon become operational.
Nabiullah Arghandiwal, spokesperson for the National Development Company, said work on 25 bridges and water control buildings along the canal is progressing intensively.
Economic experts described the Qoshtepa Canal as strategically vital for northern Afghanistan, a key agricultural region. They said it will boost farming, create jobs and provide better water access for farmers, especially in dry seasons.
Abdul Nasir Rashtia, an economic expert, stated: "Qoshtepa is one of the important and strategic irrigation canals... if we can manage these waters and use them in agriculture, we can create more job opportunities and produce staple goods within the country."
Abdul Shakoor Hadewal, another economic expert, added that the canal represents one of the best means to improve the economic situation, irrigate lands previously deprived of water and provide jobs for thousands.
The Qoshtepa Water Canal is among the largest in the country and is expected to enhance water resource management, agricultural development and employment across various regions.
