Ministry of Public Works Reports Over 229 Thousand Tons of Rail Cargo Transported in One Week

The Ministry of Public Works announced that 229,536 metric tons of cargo were transported across Afghanistan’s railway network between the fourth and tenth of Thawr, 1405 in the Solar Hijri calendar. The weekly report highlights a significant volume of freight movement through the country’s primary border crossings.

According to the ministry’s data, the majority of the cargo passed through the Hairatan port, which handled 158,133 metric tons. The Khaf-Herat crossing recorded 30,411 metric tons, followed by Aqina with 21,797 metric tons and Torghundi with 19,195 metric tons. In addition to inbound freight, officials noted that 264 metric tons of pomegranate juice were exported via rail during the same period.

Ministry officials stated that the continued expansion of rail-based freight transport is expected to generate new employment opportunities and increase national revenue. They emphasized that strengthening the railway logistics network plays a central role in supporting broader economic stability and facilitating regional trade.

The reported figures reflect ongoing efforts to utilize Afghanistan’s rail infrastructure for commercial goods movement. The ministry did not provide comparative data from previous weeks or specify the origins and destinations of the transported commodities. Rail transport remains a key component of the country’s trade strategy, linking northern and western border points with domestic distribution networks.
