Public Works Minister Mullah Mohammad Isa met with Iran’s Ambassador to Kabul, Alireza Bikdeli, to review bilateral economic ties and ongoing infrastructure initiatives. The discussions centered on the development of the Abu Nasr Farahi highway, a strategic transit corridor linking Afghanistan and Iran.

Officials confirmed that construction is underway on the second phase of the project, which spans 53 kilometers. Work on this section has progressed significantly, with 42 kilometers already completed and an additional 11 kilometers currently under development. The first phase, covering 64 kilometers, was finished previously, bringing the total length of the roadway to 117 kilometers.

During the meeting, the minister and the ambassador emphasized the highway’s role in facilitating commercial transit and strengthening cross-border trade. The route is expected to serve as a primary corridor for the movement of goods between the two countries, supporting regional connectivity and economic exchange.

The talks also addressed broader infrastructure priorities and mechanisms to streamline trade operations along the corridor. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing joint development projects aimed at improving transport networks and fostering long-term economic cooperation.
