KABUL (Hasht-e Subh) — The Red Cross Committee in Afghanistan is providing access to clean drinking water for 850 families in Kandahar province.

The committee stated on Wednesday, Feb. 25, that in the ninth district of Kandahar city, children had been missing school due to long walks to fetch clean water. It is installing 12.5 kilometers of new pipelines to bring potable water closer to homes.

Once completed, the project will enable 850 families to access safe water, allowing children to attend school more regularly, the committee said.

Access to clean water remains a major challenge in Afghanistan. United Nations agencies have warned that eight out of every 10 people in the country drink contaminated water.
