MOSCOW (Pajhwok) -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation on the status of Iran's nuclear program and the outcomes of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington in Geneva.
Russia's Foreign Ministry stated that the ministers exchanged views on developments related to Iran's nuclear activities, considering the results of the indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations held in Geneva. The Russian side reaffirmed its support for the diplomatic process aimed at achieving fair political and diplomatic solutions that respect Iran's legitimate rights under the principles of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The two ministers also discussed specific bilateral issues of mutual interest, as well as regional and international developments, according to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry.
The second round of indirect Iran-U.S. negotiations, mediated by Oman, concluded in Geneva last Thursday night. Araghchi said afterward that Tehran and Washington had reached a common understanding on the "main guiding principles" during these atomic talks but emphasized that more efforts are needed to reach a final outcome.
TASS news agency reported on the phone conversation between Lavrov and Araghchi.
